Welcome . . .

The College Credit and Careers Network is a partnership of school districts, community and technical colleges, with business and community members that SERVE students through a rigorous sequence of education and Tech Prep Dual Credit opportunities leading to industry certification, postsecondary degrees and employment in high skill and high demand career pathways.

Who are we?

  1. The College Credit and Careers Network is a consortium of four community/technical colleges and nine school districts (go to Partners page), along with regional business and industry partners.

What do we do?

  1. We are a federally funded education program, operating in Washington State since 1993.
  2. We facilitate high school students’ transition into postsecondary education and beyond by providing them with an early college experience and the ability to earn tuition-free college credit while completing their high school requirements.
  3. We create entry points for students into challenging and rewarding programs at our local community and technical colleges which lead to living wage careers and will also prepare them to take their education journey just as far as they desire.

What have we accomplished?

  1. Last year we established 117 new ‘dual-credit articulation agreements’ by matching certain college course competencies with those of like school district courses. These agreements allow students to earn dual (high school & college) credit while still in high school.
  2. During the 2007-2008 school year, 1,479 high school students earned a total of 8,789 credits at Bellevue, Cascadia, Lake Washington Technical and Shoreline Community Colleges.
  3. Students earned credit in courses such as: Accounting ~ Interior Design ~ Culinary Arts ~ Computer Programming ~ Digital Imaging ~ Graphics ~ Auto Technology ~ Early Childhood Education ~ Horticulture ~ Marketing ~ Microsoft Office ~ Sports Medicine ~ Teaching Academy ~  Engineering ~ Video Production.
  4. We work with key industry professionals to help guide curriculum planning and career exploration activities that connect our schools with the needs of business and industry in our region.

Why does it matter?

  1. Our program is accessible to ALL high school students with no cost involved. There is no charge for college tuition and students do not need to purchase textbooks or provide transportation (with the exception of certain NEVAC classes). This is an ideal opportunity, especially for students who are first generation, economically disadvantaged or who are bright but under-performing and/or unmotivated in high school.
  2. By establishing a history of earning college credit and gaining a solid foundation of skills and knowledge in a comprehensive Program of Study, students are more aware of their education and career opportunities and are better prepared to make sound decisions that lead to success in education and the world of work.
